Why MKTO Should Be Your New Obsession

I’ll keep this brief: MKTO is amazing. I mean they are really freaking amazing. I could honestly end this little rant right here but I guess i'll explain.

For one, I am a hardcore Disney Kid, and by Disney Kid I mean a Kim Possible, That’s So Raven, Lizzy McGuire loving Disney Kid. That being said, I loved the show ‘As The Bell Rings’ (And if you aren’t currently singing the theme song in your head just cease to call yourself Disney Fan), and that is where you may recognize the ‘TO’ of MKTO Tony Oller. So, to sum this up: Starred in a Disney Channel show , didn’t lose his mind afterward, also total Man Crush Monday material. Score one for MKTO.

Next argument, if you have heard their latest single ‘Classic’, you are probably already obsessing over them because that song is literally perfection. And yes I am highly exaggerating and heavily bias, I’m a college-aged fan girl…sue me. Bias (slightly) aside, this song is so unique and original. When Malcom’s rap starts I literally feel like he is rapping to me. It has a heavy Michael Jackson vibe to it; they even mention the King of Pop himself. And the whole song is basically about wanting this classy woman like the women from the good old days. Talk about bringing chivalry back. Tony Oller and Malcom Kelly just work really, really, well together. Two points for Gryffindor! (Sorry I got a little carried away there but you get the point).

Speaking of their music, their debut album doesn’t drop until April in the US, but being as awesome as I am I have friends in high places (and by that I mean in Australia where the album is already out) and got the chance to preview the album and let’s just say…this is not an album you want to miss out on. But this isn’t an album review, that’s a whole other rant for another day.

I promised I’d keep this brief-ish. So I’ll end my little rant with this: MKTO is really freaking amazing. Go check them out, watch the ‘Classic’ music video. And go forth and obsess my friends.

Ariana Grande "Yours Truly" Album Review

Ariana Grande “Yours Truly” Album Review
Daniaja Davis

Ariana Grande’s debut album “Yours Truly” was finally released today in the US. There are so many things right about this album, but first I’d just like to ask: Where the heck have you been all this time Ariana?! For years I have referred to Ariana Grande as the dopey girl from Victorious but now I see that that show did her no justice at all.

I cannot even begin to comprehend how amazing this girl’s vocals are. Honestly, it’s just refreshing to hear. After witnessing Miley Cyrus twerking on Robin Thicke at the VMAs, I had almost given up on my generation. Granted there are still some genuine female performers out there like Demi Lovato and Katy Perry, but now Ariana Grande has just come out as a force to be reckoned with. The very first song on the album “Honeymoon Avenue” simply just gave me goose bumps, her vocals are, arguably, comparable to JoJo and Mariah Carey. There are some seriously powerful lyrics in this track, and I cannot take it off repeat. Hands down one of my favorite tracks from the album.

This album has a lot of songs that I am predicting right now will be classics for years to come. Songs like “Piano” which just makes you want to grab someone’s hands and dance the night away, and “Almost Is Never Enough” ft. Nathan Sykes that just give you chills and make you want to call that guy you’ve been secretly crushing on and tell them you love them. Speaking of “Almost Is Never Enough” what do we think about the not-so-secret couple Ariana and Nathan? Adorable right?!

My biggest complaint about this album is that it didn’t come out sooner. But I appreciate the time and effort put into it. Ariana is definitely carefully marketed, with much help from manager Scooter Braun. Unlike most young singers, Ariana has a pure innocent vibe about her. And this album reflects that. At the same time, there is a sense of sensual maturity that allows an older audience to take her seriously without her having to use her body to prove she is an adult. Bottom line, Ariana Grande has come out of the gate strong. Watch out people! I have a feeling this is only the beginning of her reign. Don’t believe me? Check her album “Yours Truly” in stores and on iTunes now.
