Why MKTO Should Be Your New Obsession

I’ll keep this brief: MKTO is amazing. I mean they are really freaking amazing. I could honestly end this little rant right here but I guess i'll explain.

For one, I am a hardcore Disney Kid, and by Disney Kid I mean a Kim Possible, That’s So Raven, Lizzy McGuire loving Disney Kid. That being said, I loved the show ‘As The Bell Rings’ (And if you aren’t currently singing the theme song in your head just cease to call yourself Disney Fan), and that is where you may recognize the ‘TO’ of MKTO Tony Oller. So, to sum this up: Starred in a Disney Channel show , didn’t lose his mind afterward, also total Man Crush Monday material. Score one for MKTO.

Next argument, if you have heard their latest single ‘Classic’, you are probably already obsessing over them because that song is literally perfection. And yes I am highly exaggerating and heavily bias, I’m a college-aged fan girl…sue me. Bias (slightly) aside, this song is so unique and original. When Malcom’s rap starts I literally feel like he is rapping to me. It has a heavy Michael Jackson vibe to it; they even mention the King of Pop himself. And the whole song is basically about wanting this classy woman like the women from the good old days. Talk about bringing chivalry back. Tony Oller and Malcom Kelly just work really, really, well together. Two points for Gryffindor! (Sorry I got a little carried away there but you get the point).

Speaking of their music, their debut album doesn’t drop until April in the US, but being as awesome as I am I have friends in high places (and by that I mean in Australia where the album is already out) and got the chance to preview the album and let’s just say…this is not an album you want to miss out on. But this isn’t an album review, that’s a whole other rant for another day.

I promised I’d keep this brief-ish. So I’ll end my little rant with this: MKTO is really freaking amazing. Go check them out, watch the ‘Classic’ music video. And go forth and obsess my friends.

Ariana Grande "Yours Truly" Album Review

Ariana Grande “Yours Truly” Album Review
Daniaja Davis

Ariana Grande’s debut album “Yours Truly” was finally released today in the US. There are so many things right about this album, but first I’d just like to ask: Where the heck have you been all this time Ariana?! For years I have referred to Ariana Grande as the dopey girl from Victorious but now I see that that show did her no justice at all.

I cannot even begin to comprehend how amazing this girl’s vocals are. Honestly, it’s just refreshing to hear. After witnessing Miley Cyrus twerking on Robin Thicke at the VMAs, I had almost given up on my generation. Granted there are still some genuine female performers out there like Demi Lovato and Katy Perry, but now Ariana Grande has just come out as a force to be reckoned with. The very first song on the album “Honeymoon Avenue” simply just gave me goose bumps, her vocals are, arguably, comparable to JoJo and Mariah Carey. There are some seriously powerful lyrics in this track, and I cannot take it off repeat. Hands down one of my favorite tracks from the album.

This album has a lot of songs that I am predicting right now will be classics for years to come. Songs like “Piano” which just makes you want to grab someone’s hands and dance the night away, and “Almost Is Never Enough” ft. Nathan Sykes that just give you chills and make you want to call that guy you’ve been secretly crushing on and tell them you love them. Speaking of “Almost Is Never Enough” what do we think about the not-so-secret couple Ariana and Nathan? Adorable right?!

My biggest complaint about this album is that it didn’t come out sooner. But I appreciate the time and effort put into it. Ariana is definitely carefully marketed, with much help from manager Scooter Braun. Unlike most young singers, Ariana has a pure innocent vibe about her. And this album reflects that. At the same time, there is a sense of sensual maturity that allows an older audience to take her seriously without her having to use her body to prove she is an adult. Bottom line, Ariana Grande has come out of the gate strong. Watch out people! I have a feeling this is only the beginning of her reign. Don’t believe me? Check her album “Yours Truly” in stores and on iTunes now.

As Long As You Love Me

Folks, it's official, Justin Bieber is all grown  up. Or at least according to his new music video he is. At 8:00am this morning, Beliebers everywhere were wide awake for the premiere of the music video for As Long As You Love Me. The video hasn't been out a full day and already has had over FIVE trending topics on twitter including #ALAYLM and #ALAYLMVideo.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a pretty big Belieber myself, but after a little disappointment from the highly anticipated Boyfriend music video I was a little nervous for this one. But after seeing the video for myself, I can understand all the hype. The Biebs has stepped away from dancing surrounded by chicks and cars and moved into the storytelling realm. Without giving too much away, the video follows Justin as he tries to run away with the girl of his dreams while trying to convince her over-protective father that he truly loves his daughter.

This video is definitely a huge step up from his last music video, and it shows the maturity that Justin is learning as an artist. The video features dancing, a few cute romantic scenes, and...wait...a fight scene?! That's right, Bieber pulls out the dukes as he battles his love's father. Who knew you had it in you Justin? But of course, I can't tell you who won the fight, you'll just have to see for yourself.

Starting Over

So I seriously forgot I even had this blog until just recently and man I really sucked at it! Well you know what from now on I will do better! I promise.

So I thought about my blog today because I was thinking about college, and writing, and photography and just my future in general. And as I looked back on my blog I realized just how much I have been blessed with opportunities that most people only dream of! I have been able to do so much and meet so many cool people. As I prepare for my senior year I'm wondering now what all God has in store  for me. I'm also trying to find a way to make sure I can constantly stay updated on my blog. I know for sure I will be taking more pictures this year but I also want to focus more on my writing. So I'm thinking I'll do movie, video games, and music reviews. Sounds like a plan doesn't it? Yeah...it does. Well, that's really all I can write right now (I'm supposed to be working o.O) so i'll think of something much less boring to write about later :). Hmm....on another note....I should really pick a new signature...I need one that sounds more.....mature...yeah.

Ciao for now~

Unforgiving or Too Forgiving: Reaction to reactions of Chris Brown’s Grammy Performance

We all know the expression “beating a dead horse”, well I think when it comes to Chris Brown and his drama with Rihanna, that dead horse has been beaten to the ground. After Chris Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna in 2009, his career took a fast deep plummet. Now, almost 4 years later, Chris Brown seems to be starting to come back on the music scene with a vengeance. Brown recently performed at the 54th Annual Grammys where he also accepted a Grammy for ‘Best R&B album’ for his latest album “F.A.M.E”. The reactions from his performance were, to say the least, disturbing, on two opposite extremes of the spectrum. A list on buzzfeed.com showed the 25 most upsetting reactions to Chris Brown’s performance from fans. Some of the bizarre reactions included: “Call me crazy buttttttttt I would let Chris Brown beat me up anyyyy day”, “Not gonna lie.. I think I’d let Chris Brown beat me #sosexy #lovehim #akwardtweet #dontevencare “, “I’d let Chris Brown beat me up anytime ;) #womanbeater”, and “Chris Brown.. Please beat me ;)”. Some celebrities also took to twitter to share their not-so-appreciative reactions. Miranda Lambert, country singer, tweeted multiple times about her feelings of Chris Brown, “How dang long did they give Nicki Minaj to do whatever that was? Strange. And Chris Brown twice? I don’t get it. He beat on a girl…”, “Not cool that we act like that didn’t happen. He needs to listen to Gunpowder and lead and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammys.” Lambert tweeted. Reality star Jack Osbourne also tweeted, “Chris Brown . . . people don’t forget! #chrisbrownbeatswomen”. Whoa people, what’s going on here?  It seems to me that people can’t seem to find a happy medium. No, girls should not be begging for a man to beat them, but people should also not still be condemning him for what he admitted was a mistake and what he paid the consequences for.  Both types of people represent a horrible trait in society. I personally commend Chris Brown for being able to make a comeback and regain the respect of many people. I've been a big Chris Brown fan before AND after the incident, I didn't stop listening to his music because we're all human, and human's make mistakes. So i'm not going to be the one casting the first stone at him. And just because I feel that way doesn't mean I accept or approve of what he did. Yes, beating women is wrong no matter what they did, nothing is going to change my mind about that. But I think people people are too high up on their horses to realize that he isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so all the hate can stop. I mean seriously, how is wishing someone to die (Yeah I mean you all you #RIPChrisBrown tweeters), any better than what he did? I really think people should stop giving him such a hard time, all he wants is to move past the incident and move on with his life.  So tell me America: are we decent beings enough to let him do that?

Living Violet and One Direction

Hello wonderful people! I am in an extremely good mood today (oh the wonders a nap can do for a person!) and I decided I should finally blog about two things I've grown pretty fond of over the past few weeks. The first thing, is the band One Direction, now, I've liked 1D for a few months now, but lately I've been listening to their music even more and decided it was worth blogging about. Their album "Up All Night" which will be released in March in the USA, is probably the best thing to happen since the internet. Okay, okay I know its a bit of an exaggeration, but it's a great album nonetheless. I've heard the entire album (no not pirated I just got it from iTunes UK) and I've been listening to it non-stop. There's something about their music that is a breath of fresh air. I would say my top three songs on it are "One Thing", "Gotta Be You", and "Same Mistakes". "One Thing" is a pretty upbeat dance song that makes me smile every time (see -> :-D). Now "Gotta Be You" and "Same Mistakes" are on the other side of the spectrum, they are slow tempo, soulful, and dare I say "sad" songs about relationships that aren't going too well. Harry Styles, one of the vocalist and my favorite from the band, has vocal skills that blow me out of the water every time I listen to him! As a whole, I would give the album 5 stars  it's fun, upbeat, the vocal skills as a whole are great, the songs are really catchy, and I think these boys have a long successful future ahead of them.

And now, the second thing I fell in love with this past week is the book Living Violet by Jaime Reed, it is the first book of "The Cambion Chronicles" which was released January 1st, 2012. I stumbled upon this book playing around on my Nook and it was 2.99 so I figured I'd give it a shot. Little did I know that I would fall in love with the book as much as I did, I literally read through it in a day. Without giving a way too much, the book is basically about a girl, Samara, who wants to uncover her mysterious coworker, Caleb. All the while she falls in love with him and discovers he has a dangerous little secret. It's a great young adult supernatural, for anyone who liked Twilight I guarantee you will love this book, the only issue I had with it was that it ended haha. Now I'm (im)patiently waiting for part two of the series to come out....all the way....in June. -Sigh-. BUT good things come to those who wait right? Anyway check out the book, I have a feeling this one is going to become quite popular.

WHEW! That was a mouthful, I told you guys I was in a good mood today! Until next time folks :)

Oh poor blog I have neglected thee so badly haha. I've probably gotten a total of 16 hours of sleep all week. Not much fun. BUT my grades are AWEEESSSOOOOMMME now, well...at least to me they are. Considering how hard things were for me at first i'm pretty proud of myself. The other reason I haven't been blogging much is because I've been working on my portfolio because I'm applying for a few scholarships and summer journalism programs. Really cool stuff going on with that. Anyways I did a photoshoot yesterday (yes these photos are from mid winter) and they turned out gorgeous! So i'll share a few, and i'll blog about interesting stuff tomorrow.
